Saudi Arabia’s Representative to the UN Security Council: Houthi Militia Bets on Terrorism and Must Bear the Consequences

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Abdulaziz Al-Wasail, stated that “the Houthi militia continues its attacks and threatens the security of the Kingdom and the region,” and that it has targeted civilian sites. While affirming that his country “has chosen peace throughout the Yemeni crisis,” Al-Wasail warned, “We will not hesitate to take measures to deter the Houthi militia’s attacks.” He added that “those who choose a path of violence must bear the consequences.” Emphasizing that targeting civilians and threatening neighboring states cannot be a path to peace, the Saudi envoy, in his address at an emergency session of the Security Council on Yemen, noted that this militia “has rejected peace initiatives in Yemen and continues to bet on terrorism and violence,” responding to messages from the international community with further escalation. He further stated that “the Houthi approach of targeting civilians aims to impose a fait accompli by force” and constitutes “an extension of a hostile approach based on targeting civilians.” He considered that “the international community cannot turn a blind eye to the continued support for the Houthis,” warning of the dangers of sustaining such support.
