Kuwait University: Renewal of Accreditation for College of Engineering and Petroleum Programs by the US Accreditation Council

Kuwait University announced the renewal of the accreditation of its College of Engineering and Petroleum programs by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) in the United States, reflecting the academic quality of the programs and their commitment to global standards in engineering education, and enhancing international recognition of their outcomes.

Dr. Adel Al-Mallah, Acting Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University, stated in a press statement that the renewal of accreditation serves as an affirmation of the academic level of the engineering programs and the quality of their outputs.

Dr. Al-Mallah clarified that the evaluation criteria include program objectives, curricula, faculty members, students, administration, available facilities, as well as the level of institutional support provided to the college.

He added that the accreditation process involved a comprehensive self-assessment of the programs, along with a site visit during which an ABET delegation observed student work and laboratories, met with faculty members, and toured several academic facilities and support services relevant to the educational process.

He noted that the final report included a comprehensive evaluation of the college and an independent assessment of each scientific program, emphasizing that the renewal of accreditation enhances international recognition of the quality of the engineering programs and their outputs, and grants their graduates an advantage in having their qualifications recognized internationally.

Al-Mallah appreciated the support and efforts that contributed to meeting the accreditation requirements and maintaining the quality of the engineering programs.

For his part, Dr. Abdullah Al-Ajmi, Acting Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Research, and Graduate Studies, stated that the Academic Evaluation Office, in collaboration with the scientific departments, played an active role in maintaining the quality of the educational process and preparing for the evaluation, which culminated in the renewal of academic accreditation for all programs by ABET without any recorded deficiencies or weaknesses.

Al-Ajmi expressed his gratitude to the academic faculty, students, administrative staff, and all those who contributed to achieving this academic milestone, emphasizing that these efforts contribute to the development of the educational process and serve the university and the State of Kuwait.
