In the English League Cup, Chelsea overturned a two-goal deficit to secure a comprehensive 6-3 victory over Leeds United in a tough third-round tie, thanks to the brilliance of Cole Palmer and Danny Welbeck.

The team managed by Spanish coach Xabi Alonso had been threatened with an early exit after Bosnian striker Tarik Muharemović scored in the first half (24th minute), followed by American Brenden Aaronson adding a second goal (48th minute) early in the second half at Stamford Bridge. Dominic Calvert-Lewin reduced the deficit for Leeds (75th minute), but goals from Valentin Barco (80th minute) and Welbeck (90+4th minute) sealed the victory, ensuring Chelsea’s elegant progression to the fourth round.

The 2-1 defeat to Arsenal, the English Premier League champions, on Sunday ended Alonso’s ideal start, which had featured three consecutive victories. Chelsea scored 16 goals in their first five matches under Alonso, a clear indication of their attacking strength.
