Three rare cubs undergo their first health check-up in Greece.. A new step to protect the Sumatran tiger

Three cubs of the critically endangered Sumatran tiger underwent their first health examinations at the Attica Zoological Park near the Greek capital, Athens, as part of a program aimed at protecting this rare species and preserving its population.

According to Euronews, the cubs, born last July and approximately two months old, were briefly separated from their mother during the examination. Veterinarians weighed them, assessed their health, administered vaccinations, and implanted electronic identification microchips under the skin to facilitate future monitoring.

The procedures were completed quickly to minimize stress on the cubs, as they are not accustomed to direct human contact.

The birth of the three cubs is of particular importance, as the Sumatran tiger is one of the most endangered large feline species, with estimates suggesting that only 400 to 500 individuals remain in the wild.

Zoos participate in breeding and conservation programs aimed at establishing captive populations that can support future efforts to reintroduce the species into its natural habitat.
