Video: Removal of a Jakhur tree exploited in the production of local alcohol

The Ministry of Interior has directed the Kuwait Municipality to dismantle a jaxur (a traditional desert shelter) that was being used for the production and sale of locally brewed alcohol. In a statement, the ministry said that detectives from the Jahra Criminal Investigation Department, following intelligence about the use of a jaxur in a remote area on the Abdali Road for alcohol production, raided the site and apprehended three Indian nationals engaged in brewing alcohol, as well as a fourth individual who arrived at the jaxur to purchase a quantity of alcohol intended for distribution. The ministry added that the search yielded 236 plastic bottles filled with alcohol and prepared for sale, several barrels, and materials used in the brewing process, along with a sum of money. It noted that the suspects admitted to using the jaxur as a site for producing, storing, and selling the alcoholic beverages out of public view, while the fourth suspect admitted to purchasing the alcohol with the intent to traffic it. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspects.
