Maintenance operations for the electricity and water networks begin in mid-September
Darine Al-Ali: Sources close to the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced that the ministry has begun preparing for the routine maintenance season of its electricity and water networks, as temperatures gradually decline, a trend that positively impacts consumption rates.
The sources clarified that maintenance work will commence from the middle of the current month for electricity and water production units and desalination plants, in preparation for the summer of 2027 to confront challenges posed by high temperatures and the accompanying surge in consumption rates, which are expected to reach record highs.
The sources emphasized coordination between the power stations sector and the monitoring and control centers to determine the schedule and timing for taking units and desalination plants offline for necessary maintenance, as well as the duration of such maintenance. They noted that Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Dr. Subaih Al-Muhezaim and Deputy Minister Dr. Adel Al-Zamil are closely monitoring the annual maintenance program and tracking progress in real time to ensure that maintenance operations are completed according to their scheduled timelines.
The sources considered the gradual decline in temperatures a welcome development for ministry officials, highlighting the ministry’s success in avoiding scheduled power outages throughout the summer months and addressing emergency blackouts, thanks to the rapid response of emergency teams and the efforts made by the monitoring and control centers sector to manage electricity loads.
In a related development, the ministry is preparing a detailed media report on the measures taken during the current summer and the initiatives implemented to rationalize electricity and water consumption, along with the results achieved.
The sources explained that the media report will include the highest peak load recorded during the summer period, as well as water consumption rates compared to previous years.
