Kuwait and Switzerland: Support for International Peace and Security, De-escalation, and Settlement of Disputes by Peaceful Means

Our ambassador to Switzerland, Youssef Abdul Samad, presented his credentials to Swiss Federal President Guy Parmelin, accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Kuwait to Switzerland, at the Federal Palace in the capital, Bern.

In a statement received by KUNA, our embassy in Switzerland noted that the ambassador conveyed greetings from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, along with best wishes for their health and happiness, and hopes for the continuous progress and prosperity of the Swiss people.

The statement added that the Swiss President, for his part, conveyed his greetings to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled, wishing them good health and happiness, and expressing hopes for further progress and prosperity for the people of Kuwait.

According to the statement, Parmelin expressed his country’s pride in the close relations between the two friendly nations, emphasizing his commitment to continuing the development of bilateral cooperation in various fields to serve the common interests of the two countries and their friendly peoples.

For his part, Ambassador Abdul Samad expressed Kuwait’s pride in the historic and distinctive relations between Kuwait and the Swiss Confederation, noting that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He affirmed the aspiration to build on the achievements of the past six decades and to elevate the Kuwaiti-Swiss partnership to broader horizons.

On the political level, both sides affirmed during the meeting the convergence of Kuwait’s and Switzerland’s approaches in respecting international law, prioritizing dialogue, peaceful solutions, preventive diplomacy, and good offices. They also stressed both countries’ commitment to continuing coordination on issues of common interest.

Both sides further emphasized the need to support international peace and security and to de-escalate tensions, alongside enhancing humanitarian action, international humanitarian law, and mediation, thereby contributing to international efforts aimed at establishing peace and resolving conflicts through peaceful means, especially in light of the current geopolitical challenges and developments affecting the region and the world.

On the economic front, Ambassador Abdul Samad pointed out the solid investment and commercial presence characterizing Kuwait-Swiss relations, as well as Switzerland’s esteemed status among Kuwaiti investors. He affirmed the aspiration to build on this asset and open wider horizons for the private sector in both countries.
