Mall cameras hasten the arrest of a citizen who stole a shopper's wallet

Abdullah Qanais: Officers from the Shamia Criminal Investigation Department were able to close the case of a wallet theft from a citizen while he was shopping at one of the capital’s well-known commercial malls, after surveillance cameras helped identify and apprehend the suspect.

A security source told Al-Anbaa that a citizen filed a report at the Shamia police station, stating that he was surprised to find his handbag, which he had placed on his shopping cart, missing. Inside the bag was a wallet from a well-known brand. He emphasized that he was not accusing anyone in particular.

The source added that after the theft case was recorded and referred to the Shamia Criminal Investigation Department, officers reviewed surveillance footage from the mall, which showed an individual taking the bag, leaving the premises, and boarding a vehicle.

The source clarified that, through tracking the vehicle and identifying its details via its license plate in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic, investigators were able to identify and arrest the suspect.

When confronted with investigative findings and surveillance recordings, the suspect confessed to the crime and revealed where he had disposed of the bag’s contents. Police recovered the wallet in his possession, while he had thrown the IDs and documents into a garbage bin.
