Citizen detained for assaulting airport police at the Jalib police station

Abdullah Qunaiss: An investigator at the Jalib Police Station ordered the detention of a citizen pending investigation in a case of assault by beating against two investigators from the Airport Investigations Department. A security source did not rule out the use of surveillance cameras to ascertain the details of the incident, particularly given the citizen’s insistence that he was the victim of an assault and that his actions were in self-defense.

According to a security source, officers from the Airport Investigations Department referred the citizen to the police station, attaching a report accusing him of assaulting two investigators by beating them during an attempt to detain him. The source explained that airport investigators had noticed the citizen’s near-daily presence at the airport, where he would wait for travelers and ask if they wished to hire a taxi, then escort them outside the airport. This behavior raised suspicions about the nature of his activities.

The source added that after repeatedly observing this conduct, investigators stopped and confronted him about his actions. The situation escalated into a verbal altercation, which then turned into the citizen assaulting the investigators by beating them, necessitating their control and escorting him to the police station.

The source noted that the investigation would determine the circumstances of the incident and the validity of the citizen’s claim that he was acting in self-defense, with the possibility of referring to surveillance camera footage.

It is worth noting that airport taxi drivers wait for hours daily to pick up passengers. The Ministry of Interior takes firm action against anyone engaged in illegal passenger transport, including the deportation of expatriates found to be involved in such activities.
