Heads of Gulf Audit Institutions: Advancing the Gulf Cooperation Council's Audit and Accounting Agenda
The heads of the financial and accounting audit diwans of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries held their 23rd meeting in Manama, with the participation of the Auditor General Essam Al-Roumi.
In a statement to KUNA on the sidelines of the meeting, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative, Financial, Legal, and Pre-audit Affairs Dr. Saud Al-Zamanani said that all member states are making visible efforts to take urgent steps toward enhancing audit work and elevating the performance of the Gulf system.
Al-Zamanani noted that the synergy and complementarity of efforts among the Gulf institutions reflect their interest in keeping pace with all new developments and their belief in the importance of joint work, which would advance the Gulf audit and accounting agenda and realize all future aspirations and goals.
He added that the meeting’s agenda includes adopting the topics for the seventh edition of the GCC Competition for Research and Studies in the field of audit and accounting, as well as approving the report on the results of the study of recommendations contained in the winning papers of the sixth competition. The Financial and Administrative Audit Diwan of the Kingdom of Bahrain prepared the report and also presented the mechanism for selecting the topics for the seventh edition.
He mentioned that the meeting reviewed the General Secretariat’s report on training programs implemented in 2025 and 2026, as well as the events that the financial and accounting audit diwans of the GCC countries will host during the GCC Week for Financial and Administrative Audit.
The heads approved the recommendation of the assistant undersecretaries from their 27th meeting to refer the issue of establishing an artificial intelligence-supported electronic platform containing the outputs of the committee of the financial and accounting audit diwans to the technical committee of the financial and accounting audit diwans of the GCC countries for further study, with the participation of specialists, and to examine it from administrative, financial, legal, and technical perspectives, and to provide opinions on the feasibility of establishing the platform.
Al-Zamanani also expressed, on behalf of the Auditor General, his gratitude to all staff at the Financial and Administrative Audit Diwan of the Kingdom of Bahrain, thanking them for their generous efforts in hosting, welcoming, and organizing the event, and hoping that the meeting’s contributions and recommendations would have a positive impact in supporting the direction of all member institutions.
The Auditor General chaired the Kuwaiti delegation participating in the meeting, which included Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative, Financial, Legal, and Pre-audit Affairs Dr. Saud Al-Zamanani, Director of the Technical Office of the Acting Undersecretary of the Auditor General Meshal Al-Filakaawi, and Senior Administrative Assistant to the President’s Office Sultan Al-Muzieel.
