Lebanese President reviews with Transparency International head efforts to combat corruption and enhance governance

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met with Dr. Francois Valerian, President of Transparency International, to review the organization’s work, programs, and efforts to combat corruption and strengthen governance and institutions in Lebanon. The Lebanese Presidency said in a statement on Monday that President Aoun received Dr. Valerian, who led a delegation from the organization, at Baabda Palace, in the presence of Nada Abdul Sattar, lawyer and Vice President of the Administrative Board of Transparency International’s Lebanon branch (La Fasad), and other board members. The statement clarified that the delegation briefed President Aoun on the organization’s key programs in Lebanon, particularly support for the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, as well as capacity-building programs with several ministries and municipalities, and sectoral work in environmental compliance, emphasizing his solidarity with Lebanon and the importance of strengthening institutional capacities and entrenching the principles of governance and accountability to restore public trust in the state. The Lebanese National News Agency also reported that the organization’s president and his accompanying delegation visited the headquarters of the National Anti-Corruption Authority in the Fardan area and met with its head, Judge Claude Karam, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation ties and review the authority’s achievements, reaffirming his readiness to cooperate with it through various branches of the organization worldwide.
