US President and British Prime Minister Discuss Middle East Developments and Efforts to Reopen the Strait of Hormuz

A statement issued by the British government on Monday said that Burnham “congratulated President Trump on the latest US employment data and pointed to positive indicators of growth in the British economy.” Regarding Ukraine, the statement clarified that both sides agreed on the need to continue working toward a ceasefire that would prevent further casualties, adding that the British prime minister reiterated the United Kingdom’s support for Ukraine and for the recent US-led peace negotiations. The statement added that the two sides also discussed a number of Middle East-related issues, noting that Burnham reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to working for peace and security in the region. According to the statement, Burnham stressed the importance of the “two-state solution,” reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and ensuring that Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon.
