Kuwait’s athletics team secured three medals—gold, silver, and bronze—in the events of the 12th Arab Junior Athletics Championships for athletes under 18, held in the capital city of Cairo, raising their total medal count to five across various disciplines.
Feisal Al-Dasmi, head of the delegation, told KUNA that Kuwaiti national team athlete Yasmin Walid won the gold medal in the high jump event with a clearance of 1.66 meters, while player Abbas Al-Nasser claimed the silver medal in the pole vault with a height of 4.20 meters.
Al-Dasmi added that player Haydar Al-Qattan also succeeded in securing third place and the bronze medal in the 100-meter race, setting a new personal best time of 10.77 seconds.
In this context, he expressed his satisfaction with the outstanding performance displayed by the male and female athletes during the championship competitions. He emphasized that winning five medals early in the tournament—comprising two gold, two silver, and one bronze medal—alongside the recording of several new personal bests by the athletes, serves as a positive indicator of the development of Kuwaiti athletics and the success of the preparation phase for the championship.
He added, “We are proud of what our sons and daughters have achieved in this championship. The results obtained were not limited to medals alone; the competitions also saw several athletes setting new personal bests, which is very significant at this age group.”
Al-Dasmi stressed that participation in Arab championships provides athletes with an important opportunity to gain experience and interact with competitors, helping to build a new generation capable of representing Kuwait and achieving future successes.
He praised the substantial efforts made by the technical and administrative staff, as well as the players and athletes, affirming that these results were the outcome of continuous work, proper preparation, and commitment from all members of the national team.
