Minister of Development and Sustainability: Water Security is a Pillar of Food Security and Environmental Resource Sustainability

State Minister for Development and Sustainability, Dr. Reem Al-Faleh, affirmed that water security is a fundamental pillar of food security and the sustainability of environmental resources. Speaking to KUNA after receiving a delegation from the Kuwait Water Association, Al-Faleh stated that the meeting aimed to explore ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of water security and sustainability, as well as the role of scientific research, innovation, and national initiatives in supporting the state’s developmental priorities and the targets of “Kuwait 2035.” She added that the meeting addressed several topics related to water security, research, innovation, and strengthening institutional coordination and integration among the water, energy, food, and environment sectors, thereby supporting development and sustainability pathways in the State of Kuwait. She emphasized the importance of integrating national efforts and enhancing partnerships with civil society organizations and scientific and research institutions, contributing to the development of practical initiatives with tangible impacts and supporting the efficiency of resource management and quality of life.

For his part, Dr. Saleh Al-Muzaini, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Water Association, told KUNA that the meeting covered priority topics aligned with the country’s direction toward more sustainable and efficient resource management, in line with the water sustainability strategy and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Dr. Al-Muzaini affirmed the association’s efforts to leverage scientific research, innovation, and modern technologies, transforming knowledge into practical initiatives and applications that contribute to enhancing water security, in addition to raising public awareness about the importance of conserving resources and improving their efficiency. He appreciated State Minister Al-Faleh’s support for public benefit associations and national talents, and her encouragement of their participation in development and sustainability pathways, stressing the importance of integrating the efforts of state institutions, civil society, and research and scientific bodies to address future challenges.

On her part, Eng. Hiba Abbas, Head of the Sustainability Committee and Technical Advisor at the Association, stated that water security relies on ensuring the state’s ability to continue its development path and sustain its essential resources, thereby enhancing today’s quality of life and preserving the rights of future generations to these resources. She added that maintaining resource sustainability requires integration between water, energy, food, and environmental security, alongside a coordinating platform for national initiatives, a shared database, and clear indicators to measure performance and impact, noting that quality of life is linked to the country’s ability to translate development and sustainability targets into tangible and measurable results. She emphasized that investing in resource sustainability is an investment in human quality of life and the future of coming generations, highlighting the importance of partnerships between government entities, public benefit associations, scientific institutions, and national talents to transform knowledge, scientific research, and innovation into impactful initiatives that support water security, development security, and the “Kuwait 2035” targets.
