Forgetfulness is a blessing, but lying is a curse

God Almighty has endowed us with diverse capacities and potentials. One who possesses a beautiful pen may be deprived of a sweet tongue; one who has an iron memory may be deprived of life skills; and one who has wealth may be deprived of children.***God Almighty is the Just Judge; He is the Distributor of sustenance and the Writer of lifespans. He knows what is best for you, even if you think otherwise, and He knows what is ultimately harmful for you, even if you consider it the best.***The writer Montaigne, in his book Essays, speaks about his weak memory and forgetfulness, saying: “It may be a blessing, although many consider it a curse. Those around me see no difference between memory and intelligence, because experience shows that excellent memory is usually found only in simple minds.”***He adds: “As the power of memory weakens, other faculties strengthen. Had memory provided me with new ideas, I would have left my mind to be lazy and rest, as others do, and I would not have trained it to think.”***He also says: “One of the advantages of weak memory is that I quickly forget the insults directed at me.”***Here, he links weak memory with the virtue of not lying, saying: “Whoever has a weak memory should never lie. For a liar cannot conceal his falsehood, because people soon expose themselves. What they recount has already been imprinted in their memory; if the original account suddenly returns to mind, the false fabricated story is lost.”***He speaks about lying: “Lying is a vile flaw, because we are human, and what binds us together is speech. Had we known how repulsive it is, we would have punished it with fire. Lying and stubbornness are the two dangerous flaws that must be combated in the upbringing of children.”***He explains: “If lying had only one face, the matter would be easy; it would suffice for us to believe the opposite of what the liar says. But lying has a hundred faces, and its scope is boundless.”***Forgetfulness is a great blessing from God Almighty, granting us the ability to overcome obstacles and ease difficulties. Lying, however, is a curse; if it takes hold of you, you will not be able to heal from it.
