Ashour: Al-Samawi aims to compete for titles

Haya Hamidan: Bahraini coach Ali Ashour, manager of Al-Salmiya’s first team, praised his side’s outstanding performance in their 1-0 victory over Al-Sahel, which concluded the third round of the Zain Premier League.

Speaking after the match, Ashour said: “We must give credit to Al-Sahel, as they are a distinctive and well-organized team that has achieved notable results recently under the guidance of their national coach Ali Abdul-Razzaq. Congratulations to us on the win and the three points.”

Ashour added: “Al-Salmiya has now secured two consecutive wins following their 1-2 defeat to Al-Nassr in the opening round. In my analysis after that match, the loss was undeserved, as we created numerous chances and could have emerged victorious. But that is the nature of football.”

Ashour highlighted that he enjoys full support from Al-Salmiya Club President Sheikh Turki Al-Yousef, who is present at daily team training sessions and provides complete backing to the technical and administrative staff as well as the players. This level of attention reflects everyone’s desire to compete for titles in the current season.

Ashour explained that keeping right winger Muath Al-Asimeh on the bench and not fielding him was a tactical decision aimed at promoting Abdulmohsen Al-Turkmani and Yousef Al-Anizan to inject more energy into the team. This does not diminish Muath’s capabilities, as he previously started against Al-Nassr and came on as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Al-Tadamun. He will certainly contribute in upcoming matches.

Ashour expressed his satisfaction at entering a lengthy four-week break after securing two victories, noting that this pause will undoubtedly ease the pressure. He hoped Al-Salmiya would make the most of this period to continue their winning streak.
