Launch of the Arab Ministerial Meeting in Cairo with Kuwait's participation
The 166th regular session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level has commenced, with participation from Arab foreign ministers or their representatives to discuss developments in the region, foremost among them the reprehensible Iranian aggression against several Arab countries, and the latest developments regarding the Palestinian issue, alongside the situations in Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia.
The State of Kuwait is participating in the meeting with a delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Hamad Al-Mushaan.
Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Nafati is presiding over the session’s proceedings, having assumed the presidency from the Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Fouzia Zainal.
The Council is discussing regional developments, particularly the reprehensible Iranian aggressions targeting several Arab countries, and the latest developments in the Palestinian issue amid the continued aggression and violations by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as other Arab issues and areas of cooperation among Arab states in developmental, economic, social, and security fields.
Ministers are also addressing developments in Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, and the Union of the Comoros, along with issues related to safeguarding Arab national security, combating terrorism, and preserving the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Arab states.
Foreign ministers are expected to approve draft resolutions and recommendations related to the agenda items at the conclusion of the meetings.
It is worth noting that Acting Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Christian Saunders, is scheduled to address the meeting to highlight the conditions the agency is facing due to funding shortages and the harassment its offices in the occupied Palestinian territories are enduring as a result of violations and practices committed by the Israeli occupation authorities.
Arab foreign ministers held a closed consultative meeting, with Kuwait’s participation, to coordinate positions on the issues on the agenda of the 166th regular session of the Arab League Council.
The meeting was dedicated to consultation and coordination on key issues and priorities of Arab positions, foremost among them Iranian escalation and attacks targeting several Arab countries, and the continuation of Israeli aggression and violations in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, alongside issues related to Arab national security.
Ministers also discussed several appointments for the positions of Assistant Secretaries-General of the Arab League, based on nominations submitted by several member states.
