Shalke forces a draw on Bayern

Borussia Dortmund, last season’s runners-up, overturned a deficit to secure a stunning 3-2 away victory over host Hoffenheim in the second round of the German Bundesliga, completing their set of matches with a perfect record and sharing top spot with Freiburg and surprise starters Elversberg, capitalizing on defending champions Bayern Munich’s goalless draw with stubborn host Schalke.

In the first match, after winning their opening fixture 2-0 against Hamburg, coach Niko Kovač’s side found themselves trailing by two goals before halftime, with Kosovo international Leon Abdullah scoring in the 45th minute and Tim Lemperl adding another early in the second half in the 54th minute.

However, Dortmund turned the tide in the final 30 minutes with three goals scored by Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy (61), Portugal’s Fabio Silva (66), and Kosovo’s Albion Hoxha (87, own goal).

This was Hoffenheim’s second consecutive defeat, following their 2-3 loss to Cologne in the opening round.

Freiburg continued their ideal start, securing their second consecutive win with a 1-0 victory over host Paderborn.

At the Veltins-Arena, English star Harry Kane and French forward Michael Olise began the match on the bench. Bayern Munich dominated possession for most of the game but struggled to create clear chances, as Schalke defended resolutely to earn their first point of the season.

Meanwhile, 2024 champions Bayer Leverkusen secured their first win by thrashing visitors Union Berlin 4-0, with goals from Argentines Exequiel Fernández (1) and Facundo Medina (28), Czech Patrik Schick (48), and Algerian Ibrahim Mazhar (66).

Bremen avenged their heavy defeat with a notable 3-1 win over Leipzig.
