Kuwait officials: Our national first football team will hold its first training session this evening at 7:00 pm at the Ali Sabah Al-Salem Stadium at Al-Nasr Club, under the guidance of Portuguese coach Helio Sousa, in preparation for the 27th Gulf Cup, whose matches will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on the 23rd of this month.
The preparation period in Kuwait will be limited to just two training sessions today and tomorrow. The delegation will then depart for Qatar next Wednesday to hold a training camp lasting a week, but without players from Al-Kuwait Club, who are scheduled to face UAE’s Al-Ittihad in Abu Dhabi on the 16th of this month in the first round of the AFC Champions League 2. This is the same day the national team will depart from Doha for Jeddah, meaning the White Squad players will join the training sessions on the 17th of this month, followed by a friendly match against the Yemeni national team one day later. This friendly will serve as the first and final rehearsal for coach Sousa to determine his player selections for the tournament’s opening.
Our national team is in Group A, where it will face the host nation, Saudi Arabia, in its opening match on the 23rd of this month, then play Iraq on the 26th, and conclude its group stage with a match against Oman on the 29th. The top two teams in the group will advance to the semi-finals, which will be played as single-leg knockout matches.
