Al-Salmiya defeats Al-Sahel 1-0

Al-Salmiya celebrated a 1-0 victory over their guests, Al-Sahel, today (Sunday) at Thamer Stadium, in the third round of the Zen Premier League.

The "Sky Blues" moved up to six points, temporarily sitting in fourth place, while the "Abu Halifa's Sons" remained on four points in sixth place after suffering their first defeat.

The two teams exchanged chances and threatened each other's goal in the first half, during which Al-Salmiya dominated possession, while Al-Sahel waited for the right opportunity to advance. Gabonese winger David Patrick Sambeisa of the "Sky Blues" fired a surprise shot that was brilliantly saved by Al-Sahel goalkeeper Fawaz Al-Dosari (5th minute). Al-Sahel responded when Brazilian player Cliton Jesus penetrated Al-Salmiya's defense and unleashed a powerful shot that struck the right post of Al-Salmiya goalkeeper Abdulrahman Al-Fadli (8th minute). The first half ended goalless.

In the second half, Al-Salmiya captain Fawaz Ayed launched a powerful long-range effort that narrowly cleared Al-Sahel's goal (66th minute). Al-Salmiya scored the winning goal following a defensive clearance error by Al-Sahel defender Abdulrahman Al-Dihani, which struck Al-Salmiya player Omar Ali and found the back of the net (70th minute).

The score remained unchanged until the final whistle blown by international referee Saud Al-Samhan, whose decisions were sound due to his proximity to the action and his excellent handling of protests from both sides.
