Sisi: Necessity for Relevant State Authorities to Continue Reviving Historical and Heritage Landmarks in Cairo

Cairo - Khadija Hamouda: President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi stressed the necessity for relevant state authorities to continue their efforts to revive various historical and heritage landmarks in Cairo and develop the surrounding areas, aiming to attract more tourists. He emphasized the importance of adopting a “Greening Cairo” project aimed at converting any vacated space into green areas.

This came during a meeting held yesterday between President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Dr. Osama Al-Azhar, Minister of Endowments, Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, Lt. Gen. Amir Sayed Ahmed, Advisor to the President for Urban Planning, and Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Walid Aref, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.

The official spokesperson for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed Al-Shenawy, stated that President el-Sisi followed up during the meeting on efforts to revive Cairo’s Islamic and historical landmarks. The Minister of Endowments presented the implementation status of the revival and restoration of numerous historical mosques and mausoleums, noting that ongoing efforts extend to opening more integrated tourist routes to connect various historical and heritage sites. He added that once all ongoing works related to the revival of historical landmarks are completed, the “heart of Cairo” will become an open destination attracting increased tourist traffic.

The spokesperson added that the Governor of Cairo, for his part, highlighted efforts to revive many landmarks of Khedivial, historical, and Islamic Cairo, as well as the rehabilitation and development of infrastructure in historical areas and their surroundings.

In this context, President el-Sisi reiterated the necessity for relevant state authorities to continue their efforts to revive various historical and heritage landmarks in Cairo and develop the surrounding areas to attract more tourists, stressing the need to adopt a “Greening Cairo” project aimed at converting any vacated space into green areas.

The spokesperson noted that the meeting also reviewed plans by the Egyptian Endowments Authority to develop various real estate assets owned by the Ministry of Endowments, alongside enhancing cooperation mechanisms with specialized companies and real estate developers.

President el-Sisi emphasized in this regard the importance of continuing inventory and documentation efforts for various assets and properties owned by the Egyptian Endowments Authority, to preserve and safeguard waqf (endowment) properties and to maximize their optimal utilization in accordance with the conditions set by their founders.
