The meeting was attended by Ambassador Sherif Kamel, Supervisor of the Office of the Secretary-General of the Arab League.

Kuwait participated in the meeting with a delegation led by Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs, Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Adwani, to discuss several issues affecting Arab national security and to prepare for the 166th session of the Arab League Council at the level of Foreign Ministers, scheduled to be held next Monday at the Arab League headquarters.

Al-Ajili stated that Tunisia presides over this session amid a delicate and sensitive regional context, with challenges facing the Arab region increasing. He emphasized that Arab solidarity is more important today than ever before, calling for intensified consultation and coordination to maintain a unified Arab position and enhance the League’s capacity to address various issues and challenges.

Al-Ajili stressed the significance of this presidency coinciding with the assumption of duties by Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy, wishing him every success in his responsibilities and expressing Tunisia’s expectation of close cooperation with him and the Secretariat during this phase.

He noted that Tunisia would work during this session in a spirit of consensus and openness, based on its fundamental principles and positions, foremost among which is the unwavering and unconditional support for the just Palestinian cause and the right of the fraternal Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, as well as adherence to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states, and the enhancement of Arab solidarity and unity, all in service of the region’s security and stability.

He further emphasized his country’s commitment to consolidating efforts to develop the system of joint Arab action and update the mechanisms of the Arab League in response to the aspirations of Arab peoples.

For her part, Ambassador Fawzia Zainal, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, stated in a speech delivered before Tunisia assumed the presidency of the current session of the Council, that the blatant and deliberate Iranian attacks targeting the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan constitute a blatant violation of international law and undermine peace and security throughout the region, particularly the targeting of civilians and civilian objects, which is a serious breach of international humanitarian law. She warned of the dangers of these aggressions and reiterated the firm Arab position rejecting threats to the sovereignty of Arab states and the security of their citizens.

She stated that the Palestinian issue remains our primary central issue, noting that the 165th session of the Council, presided over by the Kingdom of Bahrain, witnessed intensive diplomatic activity to confront the continuation of Israeli blatant violations and aggression against the Gaza Strip. In this context, she stressed the necessity of working to achieve a ceasefire, facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid, and safeguard the rights of the fraternal Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

She affirmed the importance of completing the implementation of the second phase of the peace plan presided over by US President Donald Trump.

Zainal stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain played a significant and active role in supporting the Palestinian cause within the Security Council during its presidency, by ensuring that attention was drawn to the humanitarian suffering in the Gaza Strip and by pushing for the adoption of decisive resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire and the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid. She further noted Bahrain’s support for international efforts to secure Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations, reaffirming Bahrain’s firm and steadfast position in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

She added that the session continued its efforts to reaffirm support for the brotherly peoples of Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, Iraq, and Somalia, standing by their national institutions to preserve their unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and to resolve the crises afflicting them through comprehensive political solutions.
