Minister of Public Works Participates in the Gulf Forum for Green Mobility in Salalah

Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan participated in the proceedings of the Gulf Green Mobility Forum 2026, organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in the Dhofar Governorate of the Sultanate of Oman, under the patronage of His Excellency Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and with the participation of officials, experts, and specialists from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

During the visit, the Minister was welcomed by Omani Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, Engineer Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Transport, Engineer Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shamaikhi.

The forum showcased the latest Gulf initiatives and projects in the field of sustainable mobility, alongside the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts to develop a more efficient, sustainable, and low-carbon transport system, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The forum witnessed the announcement of a package of agreements, projects, and initiatives in the transport, logistics, and green mobility sectors, with a total value exceeding OMR 600 million. It also saw the launch of the national Omani application “Shahin” for electric vehicle charging services, and the adoption of the regulatory framework for electric charging point operators and service fee tariffs.

Furthermore, the forum highlighted the scale of investments related to green mobility in the Sultanate of Oman, which exceeded OMR 320 million in 2025. These investments covered projects in the ports, marine fuel, shipping, electric mobility, fast-charging centers, and supporting technologies and solutions sectors.

Announced projects included the operation of the first hydrogen production, supply, and distribution station in the Sultanate of Oman in partnership with Shell Oman, the deployment of the first 15 light-duty hydrogen vehicles powered by green hydrogen, as well as projects for ship recycling, providing shore power to vessels while at berth, and the establishment of an integrated facility for producing and supplying green methanol to ships.

The Minister of Public Works’ participation in the forum comes within the framework of enhancing Gulf cooperation and exchanging expertise in the fields of transport, infrastructure, logistics, and sustainable mobility, as well as learning from modern experiences and projects that support the development of transport systems, improving their efficiency and sustainability.

Kuwait’s participation in this Gulf forum also underscores the importance of exchanging expertise in infrastructure, transport, and logistics projects, thereby supporting the GCC states’ direction toward more efficient, sustainable, and low-carbon transport solutions.
