Lebanon announced that it received, through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), four prisoners who had been held by the Israeli occupation. A convoy from the ICRC headed toward the town of Naqoura at the Ras al-Naqoura border crossing in the south to take custody of the four prisoners from the Israeli occupation, and subsequently handed them over to the Lebanese Army at the Mansouri area, south of Sidon.
In a statement, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun expressed his gratitude for all the efforts and initiatives undertaken, particularly those led by the United States under President Donald Trump and international bodies, foremost among them the ICRC, which led to the release of the first batch of detained Lebanese citizens by the Israeli occupation government.
Aoun considered this first step as “reaffirming the viability of Lebanon’s firm stance, encompassing all its components, and underscoring the necessity of completing the required steps outlined in the Framework Agreement, leading to the full restoration of Lebanese sovereignty, without ceding an inch of our land or losing a single person from our people.”
The Lebanese president conveyed congratulations on freedom to the released prisoners, as well as to their families and relatives, renewing his commitment to “continue the struggle to achieve all national demands and objectives, so that all Lebanese may live with dignity in a free homeland, where no weapon exists on its soil except that of its legitimate forces, and where no sovereignty over its children exists except that of its protective, guaranteeing, capable, and just state.”
Lebanon signed a framework agreement with Israel on June 26, under US sponsorship, which included provisions concerning the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation, the return of displaced persons and prisoners, and the repatriation of Lebanese citizens’ remains held by the occupation.
