European Union: We support Syria's recovery and reconstruction
Henrika Trautmann, Director of the Middle East and North Africa and the Gulf Department at the European Union, emphasized the necessity of supporting Syria’s recovery and reconstruction. Speaking on her official account on the X platform following her meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaybani in Damascus yesterday, Trautmann stated that “an inspiring discussion took place regarding strengthening relations between Syria and the European Union and building effective cooperation across various economic sectors through investment.” She added, “The European Union clearly focuses on supporting Syria’s recovery and reconstruction.”
According to the official Syrian news agency SANA, Minister al-Shaybani held an expanded meeting with a European Union delegation led by Trautmann, during which they discussed the importance of expanding economic, commercial, and investment cooperation, as well as enhancing partnerships in various fields to support recovery and reconstruction efforts.
In a separate development, the Syrian Foreign Minister received the European Union Ambassador to Syria, Michael Unmacht, from whom he accepted his credentials as the EU Ambassador to Damascus.
Meanwhile, Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal al-Shaar participated in the proceedings of the 118th session of the Arab League’s Economic and Social Council, held in Cairo, where he underscored the Council’s vital role in enhancing Arab economic and social cooperation and developing mechanisms for joint action.
In his address to the meeting, al-Shaar noted that Syria is entering a new phase characterized by recovery, revival, and the rebuilding of its national economy, highlighting the importance of Arab cooperation in supporting development and investment, stimulating intra-Arab trade, and strengthening productive and industrial sectors. He stressed Syria’s openness to expanding economic partnerships with sister Arab states, facilitating the flow of trade and investment, and exchanging expertise and technology, reaffirming its commitment to joint Arab action and its contribution to initiatives and projects that promote economic integration, development, and Arab prosperity.
