Electricity Authority: Development of the GCC Interconnection System and Enhancement of Its Efficiency and Reliability

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy hosted a delegation from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Interconnection Authority at the Al-Wafra Power Station, which is under the authority’s jurisdiction, as part of cooperation, coordination, and the exchange of expertise in the fields of electricity and the GCC power grid interconnection.

The ministry stated in a press release that the visit included a field tour of the Al-Wafra Power Station, during which the GCC delegation observed the nature of operations and the station’s operational systems, as well as its role within the GCC power grid interconnection framework and its contribution to supporting energy exchange operations and enhancing the reliability and stability of the interconnection system among GCC member states.

It noted that the visit also aligns with joint efforts aimed at developing the GCC power grid interconnection system and improving its efficiency and reliability.

The visiting delegation included Ahmed Al-Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of the GCC Interconnection Authority; Mohammed Al-Sheikh, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Networks; Ahmed Al-Rumaihi, Deputy Director of the Energy Department in Abu Dhabi; and Issa Al-Zarouni, Vice President for Operations at Emirates Water and Electricity Company.

The delegation was received by Hitham Al-Ali, Assistant Undersecretary for Power Stations and Water Desalination at the ministry; Fatima Jawhar Haya, Assistant Undersecretary for Monitoring, Control and Supervision Centers; and several ministry officials and engineers.
