Citizen destroys camera on grounds that it is “intrusive” to his home

A dispute between neighbors escalated into a case of unlawful entry and theft after a citizen accused his neighbor of climbing onto the roof of his diwaniya (traditional gathering space), then entering the residence and taking a surveillance camera. The citizen filed a complaint for theft and damage to another’s property, and the details of the incident were referred to the Public Prosecution. The defendant was summoned and stated that the surveillance camera installed by his neighbor overlooked his home and violated his privacy, according to his account. The Deputy Public Prosecutor ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to conduct the necessary inquiries into the statements of both the complainant and the defendant to verify the circumstances of the incident, the manner in which the damage occurred, and the details surrounding the disappearance of the surveillance camera. The investigation will uncover the truth behind the allegations in the report and determine whether the defendant entered the residence and took the camera, as well as establish the full circumstances of the incident.
