Real Madrid defender Asensio convicted of drunk driving

Real Madrid defender Raul Asensio was convicted of drunk driving on the island of Gran Canaria in August, a judicial source confirmed to AFP. The 23-year-old’s blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit by more than threefold, and he was fined 14,400 euros ($16,700) and had his driver’s license suspended for eight months. He was convicted in a trial held in the town of San Bartolomé de Tirajana on Gran Canaria, following the incident that occurred on August 16. The Madrid club player, who hails from the Canary Islands, was not in his team’s lineup at the time under Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, as he was still recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in late July.
