Kuwait officials: Our national youth (under-20) football team aims for victory when they face their Yemeni counterparts at 12:00 noon today in Cambodia, in the second round of Group 7 of the qualifiers for the Asian Cup, scheduled to be held in China next year. The match will be broadcast on Kuwait Sport.
Japan also meets host nation Cambodia today in the same group.
The first round ended with a 4-0 loss for the “Blues” against Japan, and a 2-1 defeat for Yemen against Cambodia.
Our team enters today’s clash against Yemen with a clear desire to secure a win and make up for the first-round loss. Croatia-born coach Verdino Milin of the “Young Blues” is banking on the high morale displayed by the players in the second half of Monday’s match against Japan.
Our squad includes several standout players, such as goalkeeper Rakan Al-Saeed, and players Aaid Majed, Youssef Al-Lanqawi, Ghanem Al-Rajeeb, Abdullah Al-Qarzaei, Sulaiman Jamal, Musafir Al-Adwani, and Hadi Al-Anzi.
“Blues” player Zain Al-Abidin Ma’arfi is awaiting the green light from our national team’s medical staff before his participation in today’s match against Yemen is confirmed, after spending 24 hours under observation in a hospital in Cambodia following his injury in the game against Japan. He was discharged the day before yesterday.
For his part, Khalifa Al-Omairi, an official of our national team’s delegation, said that the administrative and technical staff held a meeting with the players after the Japan match to close the chapter on the loss and urge them to focus on the upcoming two matches against Yemen today and against Cambodia next Sunday.
Al-Omairi added that he noticed an increase in morale among all players during recent training sessions, expressing his hope that the “Blues” will secure a victory to stay in contention for qualification to the Asian Cup.
The under-20 Asian Cup qualifiers consist of 10 groups. The winner of each group, along with the five best second-placed teams across all eight groups, will advance.
