The Popular Theater has concluded the era of its appointed board of directors and entered a new phase following the convening of its general assembly and the formation of a new board, as it continues its artistic and cultural journey as one of the most prominent amateur theater troupes in Kuwait.

The general assembly meeting was attended by Mosaad Al-Zamil, Deputy Secretary-General for Financial, Administrative, and Support Services at the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters; Yousef Al-Jamian, Director of the Theater and Cinema Department; several representatives of the National Council; Dr. Hussein Al-Musallam; the distinguished artist Ahmed Mosaad; Dr. Abeer Al-Jundi; the artist Fatima Al-Tabbakh; the writer Taghreed Al-Dawood; the writer Fatima Al-Attar; the writer Abdulkarim Al-Hajri; the artist Hassan Ibrahim; Dr. Sulaiman Al-Dikan; and others.

In an impromptu speech, Mosaad Al-Zamil, Deputy Secretary-General for Financial, Administrative, and Support Services at the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, affirmed that amateur theater troupes are the nucleus of Kuwaiti theater and that preserving them is a duty. He noted his close follow-up of the Popular Theater troupe since the dissolution of its previous board of directors in July 2025 and the subsequent formation of an appointed board, aimed at restoring stability and strengthening the troupe’s cultural and artistic role.

He pointed out that the appointed board successfully accomplished the tasks entrusted to it, working to reorganize the troupe’s administrative, financial, and artistic affairs, leading to the convening of the general assembly and the formation of a new board of directors to lead the upcoming phase. He wished the new board success and prosperity as it assumes its duties at the end of the current month.

During the past period, the appointed board completed several important steps, including the reopening of the troupe’s headquarters to welcome members, students, and researchers from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, while providing them with references and documents related to the history of the troupe and Kuwaiti theater. The board also marked a strong artistic presence by participating in the 25th Kuwait Theater Festival with the play “Coffee Brings Us Together,” and by staging performances of the play at the Shamia Theater at reduced prices under the slogan “Kind Prices,” in support of promoting theatrical culture and making performances accessible to various segments of society. Additionally, the board participated in the Monodrama Festival, provided financial and moral support to those working in theatrical production, enhanced cooperation with cultural and academic institutions, and supported researchers and enthusiasts of the history of the theatrical movement in Kuwait.

The general assembly resulted in the formation of a new board of directors headed by artist Jasim Al-Nabhan, with Khalifa Khalifa as Vice President, Mohammed Al-Faraj as Secretary General, Abdullah Al-Shatti as Financial Director, and Majbal Al-Rashidi as Public Relations Director.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the appointed board of directors, led by Manal Al-Baghdadi, honored colleague Mufarraj Al-Shamri, Head of the Arts Department, in recognition of his efforts in supporting the artistic and theatrical movement in Kuwait, particularly his coverage of the Popular Theater troupe during the period following the dissolution of its previous board of directors. The ceremony was attended by Vice President Attorney Abdulrazzaq Al-Anzi, Administrative Director Ahmed Al-Tatan, Financial Director Saleh Boujroua, Public Relations Director Jasim Al-Nabhan, and Ahmed Al-Omaran.
