Director of the Atomic Energy Agency Praises Progress in Implementation of El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant

Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty held talks with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi on regional developments, including the Iranian nuclear file. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the discussion took place during a phone call that covered ways to continue and enhance existing cooperation between Egypt and the IAEA, as well as preparations for the Agency’s General Conference scheduled for mid-September. During the call, the Egyptian Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation for the close and ongoing cooperation between Cairo and the IAEA, commending the technical support provided by the Agency to Egypt under its technical cooperation program, which has contributed to the development of Egypt’s peaceful nuclear program, witnessing unprecedented progress in recent years. He also highlighted the enhancement of national capacities in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and the utilization of Egyptian expertise and personnel within the IAEA. For his part, Grossi referred to his recent visit to the Egyptian city of Alamein and his participation in the ceremony for the installation of the dry cask storage container for the third nuclear unit at the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project. He praised the close cooperation between the two sides and the progress made in implementing this project, which is one of the largest peaceful nuclear energy projects in Africa. The IAEA Director General also commended the level of coordination and regular, ongoing communication between the two sides regarding the El Dabaa project, expressing his appreciation for the Egyptian efforts in this regard.
