Persons with Disabilities: Protecting Persons with Disabilities from Exploitation or Involvement in Drug Cases

The Department of Care Centers for Persons with Disabilities at the Public Authority for Persons with Disabilities organized an awareness lecture titled “Preventing the Drug Menace,” attended by Dalal Al-Mari, Director of the Department of Care Centers for Persons with Disabilities, as part of the Authority’s efforts to enhance community awareness and disseminate preventive culture among the centers’ beneficiaries and staff.

The lecture, delivered by Dr. Aaid Hamidan and Major (Legal) Abdulaziz Al-Lanqawi, covered the health, psychological, and social risks associated with drug use, alongside an overview of the types of narcotic substances and psychoactive drugs and their impact on individuals, families, and society. The speakers also outlined the legal aspects related to drug-related crimes and the penalties imposed on those involved, while highlighting available treatment and rehabilitation programs for recovering addicts and their role in supporting their reintegration into society.

The lecture emphasized the importance of protecting persons with disabilities from exploitation or involvement in drug-related cases, by raising awareness among them, their families, and caregivers, and strengthening their ability to identify and avoid such risks.

The Public Authority for Persons with Disabilities reaffirmed its commitment to implementing awareness and educational programs that contribute to safeguarding its beneficiaries and enhancing their security and well-being, in line with its responsibility to provide a supportive and safe environment for persons with disabilities.

At the conclusion of the lecture, Dr. Aaid Hamidan and Major (Legal) Abdulaziz Al-Lanqawi were honored in recognition of their efforts to raise community awareness, promote drug prevention concepts, and underscore the importance of collective action to combat this menace and mitigate its negative impacts.
