Two Years Ahead of Schedule: 'Fayoum 4' Begins Production in the Western Nile Delta, Adding 80 Million Cubic Feet of Gas Per Day

Cairo - Nadeh Imam As part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to increase domestic oil and natural gas production and accelerate field development and well tie-ins to production, BP has commenced production from the “Fayoum 4” well in the West Nile Delta area, contributing approximately 80 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources clarified that the start of production from the well aligns with the Ministry’s strategy to stimulate investments and accelerate field development. BP has contributed to expediting the implementation of the natural gas development and production project and maximizing the use of existing infrastructure and facilities, thereby supporting the increase in domestic natural gas production. The company succeeded in advancing the start of gas production from the “Fayoum 4” well by approximately two years ahead of the planned schedule, thanks to the accelerated implementation of the project and the utilization of existing offshore infrastructure. This reflects the importance of integrating exploration, development, and production activities and accelerating the placement of new discoveries on the production map. BP had previously conducted a successful exploration campaign in 2025, which led to the discovery of the “Fayoum” well, after which development activities began and production was tied into the West Nile Delta facilities for gas processing. In order to maximize the utilization of field resources, the company also successfully drilled a lateral wellbore to access new Messinian reservoir layers within the West Nile Delta field, at depths of approximately 3,000 meters, without the need to drill a separate well or create new subsea infrastructure. This contributed to reducing the time required to start production and leveraging available capacities. Well production was tied into the West Nile Delta gas processing facilities through the “Giza–Fayoum” pipeline, relying on innovative engineering solutions to overcome technical challenges and utilizing existing offshore infrastructure, which enabled access to additional gas quantities and accelerated their placement on production. Wael Shahin, CEO of BP Egypt, stated that the commencement of production from the “Fayoum 4” well reflects the company’s continued support for the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy aimed at accelerating development activities, maximizing the use of existing infrastructure, and deploying the latest technologies to increase domestic natural gas production in Egypt. It is worth noting that the West Nile Delta area encompasses a group of gas fields located in Egypt’s offshore waters, within the North Alexandria and West Mediterranean deepwater blocks. BP operates the West Nile Delta facilities with an 82.75% stake, while Harbor Energy holds the remaining 17.25%.
