Monaco Continues to Shine by Overtaking Marseille

Monaco extended their winning streak to four consecutive victories across all competitions, defeating visitors Marseille 2-0 in the second round of Ligue 1.

The Monegasque side began the season with three wins that secured their place in the group stage of the UEFA Europa Conference League, and three points from the opening round of the league, which lifted them to the top of the table with six points by the end of the matchday, as they were the only team to achieve two wins.

Monaco recorded their second consecutive victory against Marseille, both at home, thanks to two goals from German striker Paris Bruner (13th and 54th minutes).

Marseille, meanwhile, failed to build on their emphatic 4-0 opening-day win over Strasbourg under new manager Bruno Genesio, who replaced Senegalese coach Habib Beye.

Paris Saint-Germain inflicted their first defeat on visitors Nice, winning 3-0 and securing their first victory under new English manager Liam Rosenior.

Malian Lassine Sinayoko (21st minute, penalty), Algerian Samir El Nasiri (51st minute), and substitute Vincent Marchetti (89th minute) secured the first win for the Parisian club, which had drawn goallessly in their opening match against Troyes.

This also marked Rosenior’s first win as manager of Strasbourg and former Chelsea coach, who joined Paris on July 7, replacing Antoine Kombouaré.

The start was promising for Paris Saint-Germain at home, where they managed only seven wins last season at the Parc des Princes.

Nice’s tally remained at one point after their opening draw with Lorient, having narrowly avoided relegation last season by defeating Saint-Étienne in the promotion-relegation playoff.

Rennes snatched a dramatic 3-2 victory over newly promoted visitors Le Mans.
