Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that an agreement had been reached to rename the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement as the “Mecca Alliance.”
Fidan emphasized during a press conference following the first meeting of the Strategic Committee of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement in Istanbul that the “Mecca Alliance” is founded on the principle of defense, describing it as a “historic step” toward achieving security and stability in the region.
He added, “We have taken practical steps to establish a functional security architecture in the region and have begun forming the basic structure of the Mecca Defense Alliance.”
The Turkish Foreign Minister noted that the “Mecca Alliance” is based on the principle of allowing other countries to join, and described it as complementary to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
