"Blue Court" advances to the second round of the Asian qualifiers

Kuwait officials: Our national basketball team secured one of the three berths to the second round of the qualifiers for the 2029 Asian Cup, after defeating Nepal 88-65 in the match held the day before yesterday evening at the Al-Ahli Youth Club gym in Dubai. The game was part of the third stage of Group 1 in the Asian qualifiers, raising the “Blue” team’s tally to 5 points from 3 matches, while the losers reached 2 points from 2 matches.

In the same stage, the Bahraini national team defeated the host nation, the United Arab Emirates, 83-80 in a closely contested match, securing their second consecutive victory in the tournament (4 points), while the hosts suffered their first defeat (5 points) from three matches. Group 1’s matches conclude tomorrow evening, Monday, with two games: the “Blue” team will face Bahrain, while the Omani national team will play against Nepal. Additionally, Bahrain will face Nepal today, and the UAE will play against Oman.

According to the preliminary qualification system (window), the top three teams from Group 1 will advance to the second window, whose matches will take place between November 23 and December 1 next year.

Meanwhile, the board of directors of Al-Qadsieh Club has signed American player Alfonso Wells and Senegalese player Babi Boukar to strengthen the first basketball team ahead of the semi-final matches of the league championship for the 2025-2026 season. The “Yellow” team will face their rival three times in the “Golden Quadrilateral” playoff system next October, while Kuwait will meet Kazma in the second half of the semi-finals.
