6.44 million dinars spent by citizens and residents every hour

Kuwait Central Bank data on spending via credit cards in Kuwait during the first seven months of 2026 revealed that citizens and residents spend approximately 6.44 million dinars every hour. This is based on a total spending volume of 32.77 billion dinars over the first seven months of the year, implying a daily average of 154.6 million dinars when distributed across the 212 days in the period, approximately 107,400 dinars per minute, and an average of about 1,790 dinars per second.

The data indicated that direct purchases at point-of-sale (POS) terminals accounted for the largest share of spending, recording approximately 11.102 billion dinars through 594.42 million direct purchase transactions, bringing the average value of a single transaction to about 18.68 dinars. Average spending via POS terminals reached approximately 2.18 million dinars per hour, reflecting the high volume of transactions conducted through payment devices widely distributed across various commercial and service sectors.

The figures showed that cash withdrawals via ATMs amounted to approximately 5.073 billion dinars, executed through 37.343 million withdrawal transactions, with an average withdrawal value of about 135.85 dinars per transaction. According to these figures, the average value of cash withdrawn reached approximately 997,000 dinars per hour during the period, indicating the continued use of cash in certain financial transactions despite the growing reliance on electronic payment and transfer methods.

Spending via e-commerce websites recorded approximately 9.97 billion dinars through 219.77 million online purchase transactions, with an average online purchase value of about 45.37 dinars. The figures revealed that electronic purchases constituted one of the most prominent spending channels during the period, with average spending via websites reaching approximately 1.96 million dinars per hour, reflecting the growing scale of e-commerce and digital payments in Kuwait.

Meanwhile, the total funds transferred via the “Wamda” service amounted to approximately 6.625 billion dinars through 101.99 million transfer transactions, with an average of about 64.96 dinars per transaction. Calculations showed that transfers via “Wamda” recorded an average financial movement of approximately 1.3 million dinars per hour, ranking second only to POS terminals and e-commerce purchases in terms of average hourly transaction value.
