'Toy Story 5' Surpasses $1 Billion Box Office; Home Release Date Set

After its major success in cinemas, the film “Toy Story 5” is preparing to transition to home screens, following Disney+’s announcement that the fifth installment of the Pixar series will begin streaming on the platform on September 23, 2026.

Released in theaters on June 19, the film has grossed approximately $1.13 billion worldwide to date, making it the highest-grossing film in the Toy Story series in nominal terms, excluding inflation adjustments. It also ranks among the few 2026 releases to surpass the $1 billion box office milestone.

The new installment brings Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and the rest of the toys face-to-face with a different adversary this time: technology. A new tablet called “Lilypad” enters Bonnie’s life, prompting the toys to confront a question that did not exist when the series began in 1995: Can traditional toys retain children’s attention in the age of screens?

Tom Hanks returns to voice Woody, Tim Allen reprises his role as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack voices Jessie, while Greta Lee provides the voice of the new tablet. The film is directed by Andrew Stanton.

For those unwilling to wait for its Disney+ debut, the film is also available for digital purchase, with 4K UHD and Blu-ray editions releasing on September 22, just one day before it arrives on the streaming platform.
