Member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation elected Mauritania’s Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed as the organization’s new Secretary-General. The election took place during an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC member states, convened by the organization’s General Secretariat. The meeting discussed recent developments and rapid changes in the occupied Palestinian territories, with the aim of formulating a unified Islamic position and adopting the necessary decisions regarding them.
