Syrian migrant referred to Forgery and Counterfeiting Department for possession of $7,000 in expertly forged currency

Kuwait officials: Hawalli security forces, represented by the Salmiya Police Station, handed over a Syrian national to the Counter-Counterfeiting and Forgery Crimes Department the day before yesterday, following the discovery that he was in possession of $7,000 in highly sophisticated counterfeit currency. Criminal investigation officers are now questioning him to determine the source of the fake money, while necessary measures are being taken to search his residence to ensure no additional funds or tools used in this criminal activity are present.

A security source told Al-Anbaa that a patrol from the Salmiya Police Station, during a security sweep in the area, stopped next to the suspect’s vehicle at a traffic light. The officer accompanying the patrol commander noticed signs of extreme nervousness in the driver, who appeared visibly tense and impatiently waiting for the traffic signal to change from red to green.

The source added that the driver’s nervousness attracted the attention of the two patrol officers, who activated the vehicle’s flashers and ordered him to pull over. However, he pretended not to notice, prompting the officers to call him over the patrol’s loudspeaker, specifying the vehicle’s type, color, and license plate number. This forced the Syrian national to stop, and his agitation increased when asked to present his identification.

The source clarified that the driver was identified as a Syrian national in his thirties. He was removed from the vehicle, and the car was searched as a precaution due to suspicion. During the search, security officers found an envelope placed under the seat.

Upon opening the envelope, it was revealed to contain US dollar bills. When questioned about the money, the Syrian national claimed it belonged to him. However, a closer examination showed that the bills were counterfeit. The Director of Hawalli Security was notified, who ordered that the suspect and the seized items be referred to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal actions.
