Interior Ministry: Traffic violation payment messages within 48 hours and a fine of 480 dinars are "fraud and deception"

The Ministry of Interior has warned citizens and residents about fake messages received on their mobile phones claiming the existence of traffic violations and imposing financial fines, emphasizing that these messages and the websites behind them constitute fraud and scams. The ministry urged people to ignore these messages and not respond to them.

The Ministry of Interior published a sample of these fraudulent messages, which read as follows: “Dear vehicle owner, according to traffic management regulations and speed radar records, your vehicle was detected exceeding the speed limit in a designated speed-restricted zone, which constitutes an administrative violation. The evidence includes high-precision speed radar data and digital image capture system records, and relevant materials have been archived for future reference.”

The messages also stated: “Please complete the fine payment procedures within 48 hours of receiving this notification. Late fees will be added after the grace period expires if payment is not made within the specified timeframe. If the delay exceeds 30 days, the case will be referred to the judicial authorities, at which point an additional fine of no less than 480 Kuwaiti dinars will be imposed. In serious cases, your driving license may be suspended for a period ranging from six to 12 months. During the delay period, all vehicle inspections, ownership transfers, and new vehicle registrations will be suspended.”

The ministry confirmed that settling violations is available only through the Ministry of Interior’s website or the “Sahel” platform.
