Kuwaiti Students Achieve Scientific Milestone, Win 8 Medals at the Turin Olympiad

The State of Kuwait, represented by the Ministry of Education, achieved a distinguished scientific accomplishment at the 19th International Geology Olympiad (Earth Sciences), held in Turin, Italy. The event brought together 42 countries from around the world and 166 students, with Kuwait participating as the sole Arab nation at this international scientific forum.

The Kuwaiti student team secured eight medals, comprising gold, silver, and bronze, an achievement that reflects the high academic level of Kuwaiti students and underscores their ability to compete and secure top positions in international scientific arenas.

The medal tally included a gold and a bronze medal for student Ghaliya Nasser Al-Anzi. She won the gold medal in the International Field Investigation Team category and the bronze in the Earth Systems project. Student Kawsar Ammar Al-Qattan secured two silver medals, one in the International Field Investigation Team and another in the Earth Systems project. Student Narjes Hani Sabti won a bronze medal in the International Field Investigation Team. Meanwhile, student Talal Ahmed Al-Mutairi earned three medals: a silver in the International Field Investigation Team, a bronze in the Earth Systems project, and a bronze at the overall Olympiad level.

Minister of Education Eng. Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabaee expressed his pride in the achievement of the Kuwaiti student team at the 19th International Earth Sciences Olympiad in Turin. He emphasized that the team’s haul of eight gold, silver, and bronze medals is a source of pride for the educational system and reflects the promising scientific potential of Kuwaiti youth.

Minister Al-Tabtabaee dedicated this achievement to the position of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the position of His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and the position of the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, as well as to the loyal Kuwaiti people. He affirmed that this global excellence is the fruit of generous patronage and continuous encouragement for students and education, supporting our students’ journey toward excellence and helping to keep Kuwait’s flag flying high at scientific forums worldwide.

In a press statement, Minister Al-Tabtabaee noted that achieving such outstanding results amidst international competition involving students from 42 countries, with Kuwait being the only Arab participant, confirms the advanced level reached by Kuwaiti students and their confidence and capability to compete in global scientific contests. He praised their seriousness and distinction during their participation.

He pointed out that this achievement is measured not only by the number of medals but also by the significant implications regarding students’ abilities to excel in specialized scientific fields. He considered Kuwait’s participation in such forums as opening new horizons for learning, competition, and exchanging experiences with peers from various countries.

The Minister of Education commended the winning students—Ghaliya Nasser Al-Anzi, Talal Ahmed Al-Mutairi, Kawsar Ammar Al-Qattan, and Narjes Hani Sabti—praising their honorable performance, high competitive spirit, and congratulating them on results that contributed to raising Kuwait’s name at this international scientific forum.

He affirmed that nurturing gifted and outstanding students is one of the priorities the Ministry of Education strives to enhance by providing an educational environment that stimulates the discovery and development of capabilities, and by providing opportunities for those with scientific talents to participate in competitions and Olympiads that help refine their skills and broaden their horizons.

Minister Al-Tabtabaee highlighted that the excellence achieved by students is the result of an integrated system of work, preparation, and follow-up. He praised the role played by relevant departments within the Ministry in preparing the team and training students for competition, emphasizing the importance of continuing to develop preparation and training mechanisms in line with the nature and advanced levels of international scientific competitions.

He appreciated the efforts of the Educational Guidance Administration for Sciences and the supervising educational guides, Abdullah Al-Maqasid and Noura Al-Wanda, for their dedication in follow-up, preparation, and accompaniment. He affirmed that what was achieved reflects the value of specialized educational work and the integration of roles among educational and supervisory staff.

Minister Al-Tabtabaee clarified that Kuwait’s participation in the Olympiad, alongside 41 countries from around the world, represents a rich educational experience for students, offering direct exposure to global scientific experiences and enhancing their skills in thinking, analysis, research, and inquiry—skills essential for building a generation equipped with the tools of the future.

He expressed confidence in Kuwaiti students’ ability to continue achieving accomplishments in various fields, calling on students to persist in developing their knowledge and capabilities and to seize every opportunity for competition, learning, and excellence. He affirmed that the Earth Sciences team’s achievement represents a new step toward greater scientific accomplishments.

Minister of Education Eng. Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabaee concluded his statement by renewing his congratulations to the team members, expressing his pride and honor in their achievements. He affirmed that the Ministry of Education will continue to support gifted and outstanding students and provide the necessary care, thereby enhancing Kuwait’s presence at international scientific forums and translating the Ministry’s belief that investing in its educated youth is an investment in the nation’s future and progress.
