Kuwait officials: The national basketball team will face Nepal at 4:00 p.m. today, with their eyes set on securing a victory to clinch one of the berths advancing to the second qualifying window for the 2029 FIBA Asia Cup. This clash marks the third meeting between the two sides within Group 1, held at the Al Ahli Youth Club arena in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Under the tournament format, the top three teams from Group 1, which comprises five national teams, will advance from the first qualifying window to the second window for the continental championship. The group includes the national teams of Kuwait, Bahrain, host nation UAE, Oman, and Nepal.
The “Blue Team” started their campaign with an ideal performance in their opening match of the tournament the day before yesterday, defeating Oman 88-61. They delivered an outstanding performance on both ends of the court, highlighted by the brilliance of Hamad Adnan, Ahmed Al-Balushi, Abdulaziz Al-Humaidi, and Turki Al-Shamari.
The national team imposed clear dominance from the opening tip-off, leading 40-28 at halftime and extending their advantage to 27 points by the end of the second half, securing their first victory in the tournament.
The new head coach of the national team, Greek coach Vassilis Pratsiakos, aims to secure another win, capitalizing on Nepal’s heavy 110-64 defeat to host nation UAE in their opening qualifying match. This result helps ensure the “Blue Team’s” progression to the second Asian qualifying window.
