Syria and Saudi Arabia sign memoranda of understanding for cooperation in road and railway transport

Syrian Minister of Transport Yara Bader and Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser signed two memoranda of understanding for cooperation in the transport and logistics sectors, particularly in the railway and road transport fields, in Damascus.

The two memoranda aim to build capacity, exchange expertise, and conduct studies, contributing to the rehabilitation of Syria’s road and railway networks and revitalizing transport and commercial exchange through Syria.

The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported in a statement yesterday that the signing of the memoranda followed a coordination meeting between the two ministers, aimed at enhancing joint cooperation between the two countries in transport and logistics, developing commercial exchange, and facilitating the flow of goods.

Emphasizing during his speech at the meeting that the Saudi delegation’s visit comes amid rapid developments in various fields in Syria and growth in economic and commercial sectors, which open wide horizons for strengthening cooperation and partnership between the two countries, Syrian Transport Minister Bader highlighted the importance of steps taken by Saudi Arabia to facilitate truck drivers’ visa acquisition, thereby easing the two-way import of goods between Syria and the Kingdom.

He expressed Syria’s aspiration to enhance joint work in various transport and logistics fields with the Kingdom, particularly in developing road and railway networks, and benefiting from its advanced expertise and experiences, thereby serving mutual interests and strengthening regional connectivity between the two countries and the region.

For his part, Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and partnership with Syria, and developing bilateral relations at the highest possible pace, whether at the governmental level, in the private sector, or through cooperation with international organizations and other relevant entities, thereby strengthening partnership and supporting development and reconstruction efforts.

Minister Al-Jasser noted that the visit strengthens the trajectory of joint cooperation between the two countries, particularly in light of the Kingdom’s significant achievements, programs, and projects across various sectors, in line with its national vision.

He pointed out that the meetings between the two sides include numerous ideas and experiences that can be exchanged and utilized, adding that the visit will also see the discussion of several agreements that contribute to expanding the horizons of joint cooperation.
