It was a Day of Talha

During the Battle of Uhud, Talha ibn Ubayd Allah saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, with blood flowing from his cheeks. Overcome with emotion, he leaped forward, striking the polytheists on his right and left. He shielded the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and carried him away from the pit where his foot had slipped. Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, recalled the events of Uhud by saying, “All of that was Talha’s doing. I was the first to arrive at the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The Messenger of Allah said to me and to Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah, ‘Protect your brother.’ We looked, and saw him with seventy-seven wounds—spear thrusts, sword strikes, and arrows. His finger had been severed, so we tended to his condition.”

Then the verse was revealed: “Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah. Some of them have fulfilled their vow [by dying], and some still await [the opportunity]. And they have not altered their commitment in the least.” (Surah Al-Ahzab, Verse 23). After reciting this verse, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, pointed to Talha and said, “Whoever wishes to look at a man who walks upon the earth having fulfilled his vow, let him look at Talha.”
