Mauritanian Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed elected as new Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation

Member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation elected Mauritania’s Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed as the organization’s new secretary-general. Ahmed Ould Cheikh’s election came during an extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of OIC member states, convened by the organization’s General Secretariat. The meeting discussed recent developments and rapid changes in the occupied Palestinian territories, with a view to formulating a unified Islamic position and taking the necessary decisions regarding them.
