KD 20 fine for obstructing traffic and KD 15 for overtaking, plus a two-month vehicle impoundment; repeat offenses refer the violator to court

Kuwait officials confirmed that the Ministry of Interior stated that repeating violations of overtaking rules and conditions, or intentionally obstructing and impeding traffic flow on public roads, leads to referring the offender to the Traffic Court to apply the prescribed penalties against them.

The ministry clarified, according to an awareness brochure published by the General Directorate of Traffic, that Article 36 of the Traffic Law pertains to intentionally obstructing or impeding traffic flow on public roads, with a settlement fine for this violation amounting to 20 dinars. Meanwhile, Article 37 relates to a vehicle driver’s violation of overtaking rules and conditions, with a settlement fine of 15 dinars.

It pointed out that vehicles may be impounded for a period not exceeding two months for violations subject to impoundment, in accordance with the provisions of Article 207 of the Executive Regulations of the Traffic Law. The General Directorate of Traffic stressed the importance of adhering to overtaking rules and conditions and avoiding intentional obstruction or impediment of traffic flow, as such behaviors pose a danger to the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of road users.

On another note, statistics from the Emergency Police revealed that between August 16 and 22, 162 wanted individuals and 86 violators of the Residency Law were apprehended. Additionally, five people suspected of using narcotics were apprehended and referred to the General Directorate for Combating Narcotics, and seven individuals in abnormal conditions were also referred to the competent authorities.

The statistics showed that 10 wanted vehicles were seized, 1,932 various traffic violations were issued, and 51 vehicles were referred to vehicle impoundment yards. The number of incidents handled by Emergency Police officers during the same period totaled 131.
