Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Showcases Its Projects and Financial Expertise at Sessions of COP17 in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar: The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development participated in several specialized panel discussions during the seventeenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17), held in the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar, as part of its support for international cooperation efforts to combat desertification and land degradation, as well as challenges associated with sand and dust storms.

Thamer Al-Filakawi, Director of the Operations Department at the Kuwait Fund, took part in a high-level session titled “Sand and Dust Storms as Transboundary Risks: Addressing Sand and Dust Storms through the Water-Land Nexus,” organized by the International Water Management Institute. Al-Filakawi presented the Fund’s perspective on mechanisms for financing regional efforts and ways to mobilize the investments needed to translate environmental priorities and solutions into implementable projects on a broader scale.

The Kuwait Fund also participated in a session titled “Building Regional Resilience to Sand and Dust Storms: Strengthening Partnerships, Knowledge, and Investment,” which included representatives from the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the International Water Management Institute. Dr. Mohammed Sadeghi represented the Fund at this session.
