Ashour with Al Ahly Egyptian until 2030

Al Ahly, the 45-time Egyptian football league champions, announced early yesterday that international attacking midfielder Imam Waseer has extended his four-year contract with the club until 2030.

In a statement, Al Ahly said: “Imam Waseer, a player for the first team, has extended his contract with the club until 2030.”

Waseer’s previous contract with Al Ahly was set to expire at the end of next season. The 28-year-old player joined the team, which finished third in the league last season, in 2023, arriving from Danish club Midtjylland after playing for Zamalek since 2019.

During his career with Al Ahly, he has played 105 matches, scoring 32 goals and providing 25 assists across various competitions. He has also made 32 international appearances since 2021, contributing to seven goals.

He has won the league title twice, the CAF Champions League once, the Egyptian Super Cup twice, and the Egyptian Cup once.

The player, who scored two goals for his national team at this summer’s World Cup in North America (against Belgium in a 1-1 draw and against Australia in a 4-2 penalty shootout win after a 1-1 draw), missed Al Ahly’s first league match of the season due to lack of readiness.

Waseer was injured in Egypt’s last match, which they lost 2-3 to Argentina in the round of 16, and has not played since then. However, he was called up for the friendly match in which Al Ahly lost 1-2 to Spanish club Barcelona on August 19, where he remained on the substitutes’ bench.

Al Ahly will play their second league match against ZED on Friday.
