Norwegian Foreign Minister Meets Heads of Municipalities Unions in the South and Nabatieh: We Are Against the Systematic Destruction Policy in the South and Will Always Stand by Lebanon

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said, “We are against the policy of occupation and systematic destruction in the south.” He added, “As Norwegians, we offer unwavering and continuous support for Lebanon’s stability and stand firmly by its side.”

He continued, “Regarding the needs presented by the heads of municipal unions, I have taken note of them, acknowledging the mounting pressures they face, particularly amid the crises and the accompanying displacement of families from their villages.”

Eide was speaking at an extensive meeting held at the Sidon Governmental Palace with the heads of the municipal unions of Nabatieh, Sidon, Tyre, and Jezzine, convened by South Governor Mansour Diab and attended by Norwegian Ambassador to Lebanon Hilde Haraldstad, UNHCR Representative Carolina Lindholm Billing, and others. The union heads presented the realities and hardships faced by municipalities in southern villages and towns under their jurisdiction, as well as the urgent needs to enable them to fulfill their responsibilities toward their residents and displaced persons, alongside the extent of destruction across all official sectors.
